You’ll discover that as soon as you walk in, the outside world fades away. Workshops can be magic like that. In here we’re equally relaxed and focused.

My ideas always begin very crisp in my mind—patterns, grids, patterns, grids. Often the pull is so strong that I can’t focus on other things until I’ve let the inspiration out. But as soon as I start, the clear constraints rub shoulders with imperfections, whether I like it or not. This is when I have to remind myself that the idea of anything being perfect is nearly an oxymoron, so I relax into the interplay of chance and control. I’ve found that every piece of art is an exercise in trusting my intuition, and I revel in throwing myself into the unknown and letting my imagination fly freely.

THE REVEAL IS A VULNERABLE, EXCITING MOMENT.

From the first idea to the end the printing process is long and unpredictable. Did I get the detailing that I wanted? Did I moisten the paper enough? Too much? Did I use the right pressure on the press?

I never know what my idea will turn into until the very end.

Over the years I’ve learned to prioritize process over outcome; allowing creative flow to be the boss and ignoring perfectionism any time it tries to pop in.
